Acne is a skin disease that may result in severe scars. The healing process of skin swelling by white blood cells and anti-inflammatory molecules causes these scars. Acne scars are of two types- depressed scars, such as ice-pick scars, and raised fibrous tissue, such as keloids.
There are many surgical options available to get shot of acne scars. Here, we take a look at the different processes.
Dermabrasion- In dermabrasion, a doctor removes the surface of your skin by erosion. This is done thru the use of a wire brush that spins at high speed. It is a very agonizing process and typically requires anesthesia. After this process, your skin becomes red and raw and it takes several months to cure. This technique is helpful if your scars are raised above the encircling skin.
Microdermabrasion- This too works on the lines of dermabrasion. However, unlike dermabrasion here crystals of aluminum oxide are used to get rid of the upper layer of the skin. You will need many sittings for this treatment.
Chemical Peeling: chemical peeling involves the utilization of certain chemicals to get rid of the top layer of the skin. Once regenerated, the skin is not only free from scars but also smooth and soft.
Laser care : this strategy implies the use of microscopic pulses of light to make abrasions on the skin. The light energy helps in the elimination of damaged skin cells and further inspires the expansion of collagen and new skin cells. The collagen is consistently stimulated for upto four months. The new cells, along with newly generated collagen; work together to improve your appearance. You can need a mean of one to three sittings for this form of acne scar treatment to work.
Subcision- this method is very used for deep rolling scars. The skin tissue is separated from the scarred tissue. Due to the separation of skin tissue, blood collects in the affected area. As a result of blood clogging, the scar comes up to the level of the skin. This scar is then removed with techniques like dermabrasion and chemical peeling.
Punch Grafting- this method involves swapping of scarred skin with skin from other areas of the body. Scarred skin is removed with the help of surgical instruments. This ends in a hole. This hole is then covered up with standard skin taken for other areas of the body. Since the process involves removal of your skin, it can take a week to heal.
You can also get acne scars treated through various other techniques. They include cortisone shots and cryosurgery.
