Ice pick scar are mostly formed as a consequence of acne leading to a papule. This is a kind of skin injury which is remarkably narrow on the surface. However, the consequential blemish will frequently run deep into the skin. Because of this shape, and the way the scar commonly has a uneven edge, it can be best envisioned by means of imagining the dent left by being stabbed by an ice pick. It is one of the most evidently striking sorts of acne scar.
As ice pick scars are so deep, they normally expand to the dermis. This means ice pick scars can’t be cured by a number of the more customary acne scar techniques such as dermabrasion which want to flatten out the uppermost layer of skin. The scars are also typically too deep for punch grafts, in which skin from elsewhere in the body is set into the gaps created by the scar.
In some cases, the effects of ice pick scars can be lessened without having to take out the scar tissue. This can be done by stretching out the skin, which flattens out the noticeable harm. However, this merely succeeds with more lax scars.
One method of treating ice pick scarring is skin laser treatment. This can include using a hand held skin laser to wound the affected area, which encourages the body to rejuvenate the skin, which softens and reshapes the scarred area. In clinical cases, the skin laser is essentially used to eliminate the scarring totally.
An alternative method is skin needling using a Derma Roller. This includes using a hand held roller (a bit similar to a small paint roller) with micro needles on the roller to roll over the affected region to trigger tiny traumas on the dented skin causing the skin to churn out further collagen and initiate healing. Over time this will in time repair most or all of the injured skin.
